The successful candidate for this Project Engineer (mid-level) position will support project teams and the firm’s key regional clients in the planning, design, and implementation of complex and innovative combined sewer, wastewater conveyance, and wastewater treatment projects. Projects may also include stormwater management, green infrastructure, and asset management. The position will be located in the DC Clean Rivers Project field office at DC Water (Blue Plains). As part of subsequent training, professional development and career progression, this role will have opportunities for increasing responsibility including project management and contribution to the firm’s business development efforts.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES• Engineering planning, design and consulting for complex assignments, including hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, utility plans, technical specifications, infrastructure condition assessment and rehabilitation, cost estimating.• Construction-phase services for construction of heavy civil infrastructure, including shop drawing review, contractor coordination, RFI response preparation, third-party coordination, and construction observation.• Review of engineering designs, bid packages, proposals, and Statements of Work prepared by others, as part of a program management role in support of the client’s Capital Improvement Plan implementation.• Participate in assignments as a member of a team, sometimes in a lead role area(s) of expertise, including peer mentorship of design and consulting staff. • Development and presentation of project deliverables to clients.• Field investigations.QUALIFICATIONS• Education: B.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required. M.S. degree is preferred.• Experience: 5-10 years of experience in water, wastewater, and/or stormwater engineering consulting and/or construction management performing studies, design and construction management services for municipal clients. Experience working on large ($100M+) projects/programs is preferred.• Certifications, Licenses: Professional Engineer licensure is required.SKILLS/COMPETENCIES• Experience in the preparation of contract documents for water and sewer projects.• Experience in the study and design hydraulic structures.• Experience in the provision of construction phase services, construction observation including review of construction submittals, and preparation of RFI responses.• Familiarity with asset management concepts, including asset inventory, condition assessment, risk-based project prioritization, and capital improvement planning.• Experience working with hydraulic computations/models and GIS databases.• Experience working on a team with other engineers.• Strong communication and technical writing skills.Travel Demands: Mostly local to the DC metro area with infrequent regional travel.
